Sweat440 3 Month Review

At the time of this review, I’ve been a member at Sweat440 for 3 months now and I want to share a review. This post is NOT sponsored in any way (although even if it were, I’d still be honest). I’ve attended 35 classes now (which is less than I expected since it feels like I’m always there) and I want to share my opinions so far because I feel like there aren’t actually that many reviews for this class online compared to other classes like Orange Theory or Barry’s.

How is the class structured?

It’s a HIIT class, mostly focusing on weight based exercises. There are 4 stations and at each station, you rotate through 3 activities. There’s no running component, which I appreciate. Mondays and Thursdays are lower body days, Tuesdays and Fridays are upper body days, Wedensday is core, and the weekends are full body days (at least at the location I go to). The exercises involve weights, some machines, and sometimes just body weight. I believe F45 is the most similar class to Sweat440.

Pros

The biggest pro for me is that I can certainly feel myself getting stronger. I can see it in my arms in the mirror. I can do a few pushups for the first time in my life. I am reaching for heavier and heavier weights for the workouts. There is no doubt that I’m gaining more muscle with Sweat440 than with any of the at-home or gym workouts I was doing on my own. This is the reason I keep paying for the membership and coming to the class. I’m not going to lie and say that my body is transformed or anything – it’s not. I’ve only done 32 classes, but I’m seeing the results slowly but surely.

For me, the price is a major pro as well. I signed up in January for the unlimited program for $100 monthly. I know that was a special rate and it’s gone up, but I see them having specials often and I think you could still get a really good deal, especially compared to the price of other classes in NYC. I usually see fitness classes for $20-$35 per class in NYC, but I go to Sweat440 enough that each class is less than $10 for me.

Cons

In NYC, there are only 2 locations and neither is very close to me. It’s quite a trek but I like it enough to spend 30 minutes commuting each way for it. I sometimes walk one or both ways, which helps me get some extra steps in too.

Part of the marketing for Sweat440 is “you’re never late” because “classes start every 10 minutes.” While it’s true that classes start every 10 minutes, the classes fill up. So if you’re late for your 5:30 class, you aren’t guaranteed to be able to join the 5:40 class unless there is an opening, but the marketing would make it seem like you can. You also get charged if you don’t show up to your class.

Finally, the amenities are NOT luxe. I hate showering there and pretty much always just wait until I get home to do so. For the price I’m paying, I can’t complain, but I want to still put it out there that the facility isn’t spa-like or even that clean.

Overall

I just listed out more cons than pros, but I want to be clear that I absolutely love Sweat440 and am going to continue paying for my membership. I am clearly seeing that I’m getting stronger. I find that the class goes by quickly for me because we change activities so often, and I really think that I’ll get the results I want if I stick with it and continue to push myself with each class. Also, I think each class can be as easy or as hard as you make it for yourself based on the weights you pick out and how much you push yourself on each exercise. This can be a pro or a con, but for me I think it’s a pro since some days, you don’t have the energy to give it 100% but you still want to show up and give it 75% rather than not showing up at all. I will post another review in another 3-6 months to keep you all updated on if I think it’s still worth it, but as of now, I highly recommend trying this class out if it’s in your city!
